Activity: Social Network Mapping Game

MentoringPrevention

Objective:

To help youth participants begin to think about adults and peers in their lives and how close they are to these people. NOTE: This activity is a precursor for creating their social network maps through the facilitation activity.

Supplies:

  • 3 folding cloth bins
  • Hacky sacks (enough for each participant)
  • 3 Binder clips (to attach signs to each bin)
  • Facilitator script (included in download)
  • Printed bin signs (included in download)

Instructions:

  • Decide upon a starting line and then place the three bins in front at varying distances (closer, farther away, and farthest away) with the corresponding box signs on the front of each:
    • Bullseye Buddies: closest bin
    • Steady Archery: middle bin
    • Long Range Roamers: furthest bin
  • It should be relatively easy to make a shot in the Bullseye Buddies bin and then progress in difficulty.
  • Have the hacky sacks in a bag at the starting line.
  • Refer to the included script for instructions on how to facilitate the game.
