Meet our 2024 Scholarship Recipients!

Eluna scholarships support the higher education goals of our camper community, with opportunities for alumni of each program: Camp Erin, Camp Mariposa, and Team Jesse.

Gabrielle F-C. | Peter DeGeorge Family Foundation Scholarship Program Recipient

Funded by the Peter DeGeorge Family Foundation, this scholarship is awarded annually to a Camp Erin camper or alumnus. Our 2024 scholarship award recipient is Gabrielle who shares that her experience at Camp Erin Toronto has left an “indelible mark” on her life, as she learned that “everyone experiences grief differently.” This knowledge helped her restrengthen relationships with family members following the death of her father. Camp Erin also helped Gabrielle discover healthy outlets, like crafting, to express her feelings—which have been vital to her as she transitions to university. Gabrielle is attending McMaster University, and her  plan is to earn a bachelor’s degree in Social Psychology with a Research Specialization. She also plans to get a certificate in Leadership and Management in the non-profit sector. Congratulations, Gabrielle!

Jack S. | Eluna Trustees Legacy Fund Scholarship Program Recipient

Founded by Susan and Erik Hansen, the Eluna Trustees Legacy Fund Scholarship is awarded annually to a Camp Mariposa alumnus, mentor, and junior counselor. This year’s scholarship award recipient is Jack, who said that he looked forward to returning to Camp Mariposa every year. Jack says that in every other activity (school, church, lessons, etc.), he was always the “only one being raised by his grandparents.” This wasn’t the case at Camp Mariposa. Jack became part of a close-knit community that taught him compassion, empathy, and most importantly, strength. “I have so much more understanding about substance abuse,” he says, “and I have no desire to ever try any illicit or mind-altering substance. I am strong in myself!” Jack hopes to study Biostatistics at Western Washington University and dreams of helping society through data analyzation. Congratulations, Jack!

Zachory H. | The Team Jesse Scholarship Program Recipient

Funded by The Ronald A. Mincio Education Fund, the Team Jesse Scholarship was launched in 2024 and awarded its first scholarship this year! The Team Jesse Scholarship is awarded to a current camper, alumnus, junior counselor, or mentor from Camp Erin or Camp Mariposa with a military-affiliated household member. Our 2024 recipient is Zachory, who attended Camp Erin Lewis-Clark Valley for three years, an experience he describes as “transformative.” “The skills I acquired at Camp Erin have proven invaluable,” says Zachory. His favorite Camp Erin memories include decorating a light-up star to honor lost loved ones and connecting with others who shared similar experiences. “In those moments,” he says, “the feelings of loneliness and sadness that often accompany grief began to fade.” The most influential person in Zachory’s life is his father, Jacob, a Navy veteran who inspired his pursuit of a criminal justice major with minors in cyber security and digital forensics at Stevenson University. Zachory’s career aspirations include joining a federal law enforcement agency in Washington, D.C. Congratulations, Zachory!

The 2024 Eluna Scholarship Program is made possible thanks to the generous support of the following donors, The Peter DeGeorge Family Foundation, Susan and Erik Hansen, and The Ronald A. Mincio Education Fund. Check back in spring 2025 to find out about Eluna’s annual scholarship opportunities!
