– Formalizes ongoing efforts made to fight opioid abuse

– Grants to be overseen by newly-formed External Advisory Committee comprised of experts on opioid abuse

VALLEY FORGE, Pa., Apr. 26 /CSRwire/ – The AmerisourceBergen Foundation, a not-for-profit charitable organization focused on supporting health-related causes that enrich the global community, today announced the broadening of its current efforts toward curbing opioid abuse through the formation of a new grant program.

The Opioid Resource Grant Program builds off of continuous and ongoing efforts through the Foundation to support and advance ideas from innovative non-profit, grant-funded organizations, in an effort to redefine best practices across the country in the fight against the opioid epidemic. Funding from the program will be allocated to organizations committed to pioneering new ideas, and priority will be given to proposals that address the safe disposal of opioids and education around prevention.

“The AmerisourceBergen Foundation is deeply committed to collaborating with all stakeholders to find ways to combat opioid abuse, while also identifying and devoting resources to creating new action-oriented solutions through which we can affect positive change,” said Gina Clark, President of the AmerisourceBergen Foundation. “With the creation of our Foundation’s grant program – led by a team universally recognized as experts in treating opioid abuse – we will be better equipped to support and partner with likeminded organizations that share our desire to stop opioid abuse, now and in the long-term.”

The AmerisourceBergen Foundation has created an External Advisory Committee (“EAC”) comprised of key stakeholders and thought leaders to oversee the grant-making process. EAC members include:

Mary K. FitzGerald, CEO, Eluna
Dr. Joseph N. Ranieri, Chief Medical Officer, Seabrook
Dr. Richard Cohen, President and CEO, Public Health Management Corporation
The Honorable Jason Altmire, Former Pennsylvania 4th Congressional District

Proposals will be accepted on an ongoing basis, and more information about the program can be found at https://www.amerisourcebergen.com/abcnew/foundation.

All grant recipients will be asked to update the Foundation every six months, and submit a report one year after receiving their grant, outlining the impact the grant had on its organization, community and specific population served.

In addition to the Opioid Resource Grant Program, the AmerisourceBergen Foundation recently announced the donation of 55,000 drug deactivation resources to communities across the country.
