Eluna receives $2.369M in funding from the Department of Justice
Grant supports Eluna’s addiction prevention and mentoring program supporting youth impacted by opioids throughout the US
Eluna, formerly The Moyer Foundation, is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a $2.369M 3-year grant by the Department of Justice’s Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) to fund its ground breaking program, Camp Mariposa, an addiction prevention and mentoring program for youth ages 9-17 at high-risk for opioid abuse and criminality due to the disease of addiction in the family and/or living in communities with high rates of opioid use. The grant funding will provide programming support in the existing 13 locations as well as expansion to 2 new locations and addition of enhanced mentoring support and family engagement programming.
“We are honored that the Department of Justice has invested in Eluna to address the needs of children impacted by substance use disorder in their families and appreciate all of the efforts to make this happen. Having worked for more than a decade supporting children and teens exposed daily to the grim realities of the opioid crisis, we know this grant will make a longstanding positive impact in so many communities. With such a critical health issue devastating millions of families, we all need to be focused on the impact this has on our children so we can break the cycle of addiction,” said Mary K. FitzGerald, CEO of Eluna,
Eluna’s innovative Camp Mariposa program offers continuing free weekend camps for kids ages 9-17 and provides them with mentoring, addiction prevention and opioid education programs crucial to preventing opioid use, early substance abuse and juvenile delinquent behavior. Eluna works with trained experts and thought leaders in its network of camp program providers across the US to deliver mentoring support, training modules, addiction-prevention and suicide prevention curriculums, and meaningful support services for participants and their families.
