Meet Our 2022 Scholarship Winners!

Danny S. | Eluna Trustees Legacy Fund Scholarship Recipient

Funded by Susan and Erik Hansen, the Eluna Trustees Legacy Fund scholarship is awarded annually to a Camp Mariposa alumnus, mentor, and junior counselor pursuing higher education. Danny attended Camp Mariposa because of inconsistencies in his life caused by his parents’ substance use. He shared, “Going to camp was an experience I will never forget because for once I felt like I fit in somewhere and I could be honest about my feelings.”

During his time at camp, he was awarded the leadership award and eventually became a Counselor in Training. Today, Danny is in his first year at University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and is studying to become a counselor or mental health clinician.

Morgan K. | The Peter DeGeorge Family Foundation Scholarship Recipient

The Peter DeGeorge Family Foundation Scholarship is available to any current Camp Erin camper or alumnus who is pursuing higher education. Morgan attended Camp Erin with her sister when she was seven years old after her father’s death. She took pride in scaling the rock wall and appreciated the moments of camp where she didn’t think about her grief but could experience joy and be a kid.

When reflecting on her experience, Morgan shared: “Camp Erin was a short weekend, many years ago, but I cherish the memories and appreciated the opportunity to meet other kids like me who had experienced loss.”

This year Morgan began her studies at Syracuse University and plans on majoring in nutrition science and biology.
