Activity: Memory Scavenger Hunt
Objective: The Memory Scavenger Hunt provides participants an opportunity to reminisce as a family or friend group – sharing personal experiences and connections with the person who died.
Supplies:
- Pencil/pen/marker
- Scavenger Hunt handout (second page)
- Boxes or display trays (optional)
Instructions:
- Participants will go on a “scavenger hunt” to find items that represent the identified prompts (second page). Items can be either literal or symbolic in nature.
- This activity could be done as a family activity or participants could consider completing it via a “30-Day Challenge.”
- Extended family members could participate from afar via text or email.
- Remind participants that each person has had their own unique relationship with the person who died. Responses to each prompt may vary by person and shared memories might be remembered differently by each participant – and that’s OK.
- Provide permission to skip any prompt that is not meaningful, as well as, add in others, as desired.
- Once gathered, participants can share their treasured items and associated memories in person or virtually.
Additional Ideas: If interested, the items found on the Memory Scavenger Hunt can be placed on display in a tray, shadow box, or memory box. Participants can continue to add items over time and revisit to reminisce on special occasions or when they desire to reconnect to the person who died.
