Connecting with your Children
As Amy mentioned, it’s important to speak about the person who died so that your child(ren) know that they can as start the conversation when/if they need. Sometimes it works to have a direct face-to-face conversation and sometimes it works better to check-in when you don’t require eye-to-eye contact, for instance while you’re in a car or on a walk or making dinner.
Other ideas include:
- Write little notes and leave them for each other
- Use a journal to write notes to each other. This Q&A Journal is great.
- Memory Jar: This popular activity can be an important tool for storing memories and starting conversations.
- Create an Altar or Memory Trunk with photos, letters and other special items.
