Leaving a Better World: Eco-friendly Grief Rituals
There are so many ways that we can express our grief and take time to honor and remember the people in our lives who have died. Some of the common ways of remembering someone, such as a balloon release, are not very healthy for the Earth or animals.
Did you know latex balloons, which most companies market as “biodegradable” or “eco-friendly” can take up to 6 years to biodegrade? Unfortunately most of them don’t get to that stage because curious animals try to eat them and cannot live with this substance in their systems. Mylar balloons (like the one in this picture) are made of materials that will never biodegrade.
Don’t worry! There are so many other wonderful ways to continue to honor and remember the people in our lives who have died.
Included in this printable resource are some ideas inspired by the Earth’s elements that are more eco-friendly and feel just as special.
After reading these ideas, we encourage you to use the back of this sheet to explore how to use eco-friendly rituals in your life.
