Gwen Roseman Stern is an accomplished trial lawyer, law professor, litigation and communication expert, national legal education speaker, author, community leader, entrepreneur, philanthropist, and seasoned national media guest.

She seeks opportunities to serve as a board member and strategic advisor to corporate decision makers on legal strategy, litigation assessment, mitigating risk, and effective communications. Ms. Stern is dedicated to contributing her knowledge, expertise, and collaborative leadership skills on public, private and non-profit boards in the areas of health, medical device, consumer products, and technology.

Legal & Academic Leadership Expertise
Ms. Stern spent two decades at prominent Philadelphia law firms on both sides of the civil courtroom, representing health care institutions, pharmaceutical companies, medical device manufacturers and plaintiffs in catastrophic injury cases. On the defense side of cases she conducted risk assessments and all phases of litigation. As a plaintiff’s attorney, she litigated numerous product liability and catastrophic personal injury cases and leverages her vast experience and expertise to advise lawyers with national law firms on case analysis, expert witness communications, client deposition and litigation prep.

For more than 25 years, Ms. Stern taught trial advocacy and deposition skills for the National Institute for Trial Advocacy (NITA); and provided training at national law firms, hospitals and law schools. She is a frequent presenter at Continuing Legal Education programs across the country. She has also coauthored several NITA trial advocacy case files, teaching manuals, and a law review article on Attorney Expert Witness communications.

Ms. Stern is the former Director of Trial Advocacy and Professor of Law at the Drexel University Kline School of Law in Philadelphia. In her role, she shared her experience with future lawyers on topics including communication skills in litigation speeches, proper use of evidence in trials, deposition techniques using technology and advocacy, understanding the intersection of law and medicine, and analysis of trials of the century.

High-Impact Community and Law School Program Development
Ms. Stern enjoys creating and building successful programs from their inception. In 2007, Ms. Stern developed the Kline Law Trial Advocacy Program, which is now ranked #8 in the nation by U.S. News and World Report for its Trial Advocacy Program and Championship results.

She is also the Director of the Kline Law Marshall-Brennan Constitutional Literacy Project which pairs law students with Philadelphia inner-city high school students to learn their rights and responsibilities under the Constitution. She first brought this project to Philadelphia, in June of 2005, when she worked in the Public Interest Law Center at the University of Pennsylvania Law School by securing funding from the Annenberg Foundation and Comcast Foundation.

High-Profile Committee Engagement
She has served on numerous Drexel University Kline School of Law committees including the Law School Dean search committee; Diversity, Equity and Inclusion committee; Judicial Clerkship committee; Student Code of Conduct Hearing committee; and the University Faculty Grievance Panel. She was twice awarded the coveted Carl “Tobey” Oxholm III Outstanding Contribution to the Thomas R. Kline School of Law Community Award selected by graduating students.

Philanthropy, Community Service, and Endowment for Legal Excellence
Ms. Stern is a devoted philanthropist who supports many causes, including gifting a $1.65 million endowment to the Kline School of Law for the Andy and Gwen Stern Community Lawyering Clinic housed in the Mantua section of Philadelphia. She also funded the Andrew J. Stern Memorial Trial Advocacy Scholars program at the Temple University Beasley School of Law.

Ms. Stern secured funding from the Brook J. Lenfest Foundation for the Marshall-Brennan Constitutional Literacy Project National High School Competition for inner-city high school students across the country to compete in a U.S. Supreme Court Moot Court Advocacy Competition.

As a member of the Young Lawyer’s Division of the Philadelphia Bar Association, Ms. Stern created the “Doctor and the Lawyer in the Classroom” program for Philadelphia middle school students to learn the medical and legal impacts of drug abuse. For this work, Ms. Stern received the Philadelphia Bar Association’s prestigious F. Sean Peretta Award for an “individual who has devoted substantial time to an innovative or non-traditional program serving the community.”

Entrepreneurial & National Media Success
An avid entrepreneur, Ms. Stern launched and built Stern Litigation Consulting, a successful legal advisory firm providing training to attorneys on mastering deposition, litigation and trial skills.

Ms. Stern frequently conducts live media appearances as a courtroom expert for Dan Abrams, Chief Legal Correspondent for ABC, and his production company.

She also created a motivational fitness business, Motivate Me, and frequently appeared live on The Today Show, The View, QVC, and ABC’s Philadelphia Affiliate Action News to promote fitness and health.

Education
Ms. Stern earned her J.D from Temple Law School in 1986 and her Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism from the University of Maryland in 1983 (Summa Cum Laude). She lives in the Rittenhouse Square section of Philadelphia. She recently completed and earned certification for the Wharton School Executive Education “Women on Boards” program in June 2024.
