Activity: Social Network Mapping – Facilitation

Objective:

For youth participants to create their social network maps in the contexts of their Program (ie. Camp Mariposa), Family, and School by placing names of the close people in their life within each context on their targets. NOTE: This activity is recommended as a follow up to the Social Network Mapping Game.

Supplies:

• Single sided copies of each of the 3 targets (school, family, camp/program) in a folder for each participant (included in download)
• Select one color of arrow sticky notes for adult names
• Select one color of arrow sticky notes for kid names
• Blue or black pens
• Facilitator scripts (included in download)

Set Up:

• Have target packs, sticky arrows, and pens set up around tables prior to the arrival of participants
  • Or pass out once the instructions have been explained
• If possible, post example targets and arrows on a wall so you can refer to them while talking through instructions

Reminders: 

• Youth names are on SPECIFIC COLOR arrows
• Adult names are on SPECIFIC COLOR arrows
• Adults are those who are 18 year or older
• The point of the arrow should be in the correct ring
• This is your social network map, so you get to decide what people are on your map and what ring of closeness you think they should be
• Write your name at the top of each map!
