In her distinguished role, she leads the Technology, Intellectual Property, and Strategic Sourcing (TIPSS) Law Group, a dynamic team with multifaceted responsibilities.
As the Head of the TIPSS Law Group, Phylliss oversees a spectrum of crucial functions. Her team is at the forefront of supporting all technology and strategic sourcing transactions, playing a pivotal role in managing New York Life’s trademarks, copyrights, and patent portfolio. They also act as the ‘de facto’ business counsel for the company’s Technology organization, providing invaluable legal guidance and strategic insight.
Phylliss’s commitment to innovation and emerging technologies is evident in her team’s support for New York Life’s corporate venture capital investments, where she leads efforts to invest time and capital in transformative technologies that are shaping the future of financial services. Additionally, her team collaborates closely with New York Life’s R&D Lab, now an integral part of the Digital Transformation team, to develop proprietary solutions that align with the company’s overall innovation roadmap and digital transformation initiatives.
In recognition of her expertise and leadership, Phylliss holds a voting position on New York Life’s IT Governance Committee and the company’s Third-Party Risk Governance Committee, further underscoring her influence within the organization.
Before joining New York Life, Phylliss held the position of Director and Associate General Counsel at Citigroup, Inc., where she successfully led the Technology and Strategic Sourcing Law Group. Her rich legal career includes a tenure as corporate counsel at SunGard Data Systems Inc. (now FIS) and as Divisional General Counsel at Fiserv, two prominent leaders in the financial software and services technology sector.
Beyond her exceptional professional journey, Phylliss is an advocate for diversity and inclusivity. She has represented the LGBTQ+ community on diversity panels targeted at attorneys, contributing her insights to critical discussions at renowned events such as the Minority Corporate Counsel Association’s Annual Meeting, the Association of the Bar of the City of New York’s Minority Attorney Networking Series, and the LGBT Center’s Out Lawyers Panel.
In addition to her legal prowess, Phylliss is a published author, co-authoring the heartwarming and inclusive “The Jessie Books” series in 2011. These children’s books revolve around ‘a little girl who just happened to have two moms,’ promoting integration and celebrating the LGBTQ+ community within all communities.
