10 Ways To Build A Strong Family

The National Association for Children of Addiction (NACoA) envisions a world in which no child who struggles because of family addiction will be left unsupported. Their mission is to eliminate the adverse impact of alcohol and drug use on children and families. As part of their many programs to support children & families, they have developed the 10 tips for building a strong family:

  1. Show your love daily with hugs, kisses, and kind words
  2. Don’t allow violence, putdowns, or any other form of cruelty in your home
  3. Spend time together as a family away from phones, TVs, computers, and other electronics
  4. Have dinner and other meals together whenever possible.
  5. Talk often and encourage everyone to share thoughts and feelings.
  6. Really listen and be respectful of each others’ opinions and ideas.
  7. Establish fun traditions and celebrate family events and milestones.
  8. Play learning games and do challenging puzzles or projects together.
  9. Help each other set, track, and achieve goals in many areas of your lives.
  10. Handle conflict by focusing on the problem and not tearing anyone down. Discipline children with love by treating them fairly and firmly.
