Eluna’s Expert Voices – Importance of Communication with Timbi Talks

By: Sarah Behm, PPS, MBA

How to Talk About AddictionPreventionUnderstanding Addiction

Renee, former Camp Mariposa Director, talks about how they use the book, Timbi Talks, when supporting campers with the 7C of COMMUNICATION. Timbi Talks, authored by Trish Healy Luna & Janet Healy Hellier is designed to help young children who have a parent struggling with addiction. The book offers ways to help validate children’s varied emotions by teaching them to recognize the body’s responses to difficult feelings and stress. Timbi offers practical solutions for coping with the challenges inherent in their lives.

“We give all the kids Timbi Talks…I think that most of the children can relate to Timbi because he’s had those same emotions and feelings that they’ve had. So, that’s one of the ways that we try to get them to connect and let them know that it’s okay to have those feelings, they are not alone, they don’t have to isolate.” – Renee, Director.
